Donatella Versace happens to be one of the millions of people who were broken-hearted when the news about Prince's death was released. She has fond memories of Prince and to pay tribute for everything that Prince has done for the industry, she decided to make use of his music for her menswear presentation.
As expected, hearing the music of Prince while Milan Fashion Week took place, created an atmosphere filled with mixed emotions. The models did their thing on the runway, wearing ensembles that depicted Prince and his fashion style. There were coats in purple shades, tight suits, and blouses embellished with ruffles.
Most of the tracks played were Prince's new and unreleased songs. Those were sent to Donatella Versace by Prince himself some five months ago. In an interview hosted by Billboard, the fashion icon expressed her admiration for Prince whom she misses a lot. She wanted to have his music celebrated and she could not think of a better way to have it done than make use of his numbers for her menswear show.
Versace believes that Prince has given essential contributions not just to the music industry but also to the fashion world. She pointed out that Prince was not afraid to set his own rules when it came to fashion. He was not afraid to be different and many look up to him because of it. Versace remembers how Prince loved to wear high heels. She mentioned Prince's fondness for clothes that showed some skin. Versace admitted that the brave fashion acts committed by Prince have inspired a lot of designers.
